Preparing for Surgery
This video is designed to help prepare you for your upcoming open heart surgery. We know that you probably have many questions about your upcoming procedure and we’ve created this short video to hopefully answer many of them and to let you know what you can expect throughout your stay. MyMichigan prides itself in having one of the best heart programs in the country. Not only has our program been nationally recognized, our Surgical ICU has been awarded the Beacon Award of Excellence by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Operating Rooms Feature Latest Equipment
Two state-of-the-art operating rooms are specially equipped for heart surgery with technology for touch-screen control of audio, video and medical equipment, such as endoscopic cameras. The operating rooms are electronically connected to the rest of the Medical Center. A patient's computerized data images can be called up and viewed on the large flat-screen monitors so that the surgical team may reference them during surgery. Video cameras can record the surgery and send a good view of the procedure to monitors visible to the whole team.
Additionally, MyMichigan Medical Center Midland has a hybrid operating room to support the complex procedures performed through our structural heart program. This specially designed OR has integrated modalities necessary to support hybrid procedures and is led by highly trained staff from the OR & Cath Labs. Examples of hybrid procedures performed in this OR include Transcutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), the WATCHMAN™ Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Implant, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Repair and Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (TAA) Repair.
Safer, More Family-Centered Recovery
MyMichigan is the only hospital in the region to offer One Stop Post Op care, in which patients are taken to their own private room with private bath after surgery and will remain there for the entire hospital stay. Spacious, hotel-like rooms have built-in conveniences for the family, encouraging them to be at the bedside as much as possible.
